Every TLC summons that carries points feeds one running total. DMV points count toward it too.
The window is 15 months, counted backwards from each new violation.
| Points in any 15 months | What happens |
|---|---|
| 6 to 9 | Suspended for up to 30 days |
| 10 or more | You lose the licence |
What that looks like in real life
- A phone ticket is 3. A red light is 3. That is 6, and you are in suspension range.
- A 21-mph-over speeding ticket is 5. A stop sign is 3. That is 8. One more ticket of any kind and the licence is gone.
- Several tickets from one stop only count the highest one. Worth knowing when an officer writes you three at once.
Ways out
Plead or fight. Points attach when you are convicted, and pleading guilty is a conviction. Beating the summons at a hearing means no points at all. That is often worth far more than the fine.
Point Reduction Course. Finish it before a Persistent Violator summons is decided and it takes points off your total.
Deferred suspensions. For a third moving violation or phone use, these go away if you finish the required course within 60 days.
If you are at 4 points or more, stop pleading guilty to anything until you have done the arithmetic.
That is exactly the conversation to have with us before you pay a ticket. The plea that looks cheap today is what turns your next ticket into a revocation.
